Indonesia to organise 9’s rugby league competition

Indonesian Rugby League Federation has announced that its 9’s rugby league competition will be held in Bali on November 2nd, 2019. This is a major part of the programme which is designed to create a fully approved and recognised national governing body for rugby league in Indonesia.

This is built upon the base set up ten years ago when a foundation was set up to develop rugby league in Indonesia by French national, Pierre Vandome. The Board has now been appointed and they are led by Ni Made Citra Dewi as President. Their ambitions are clear; to establish a 12-club competition in the next two years. There are currently have five senior men’s clubs and three women’s clubs and plan to expand from their base area on Bali.

The 9’s tournament is the springboard for the development programme and is open to clubs from everywhere.

Board Member and Ambassador for Indonesian Rugby League, Pierre Vandome said,

“Our philosophy is to bring the event to locals and not to bring the locals to the event.

“Local community is our priority and this international fixture will be the vehicle to carry the " the greatest game" into Indonesia.

“We already have some great sponsors supporting us and I would like to record my thanks to Mercure Hotels, My Rocky and Chamorin Pty.”
